### Summary
**About the Position:**This position is located at U.S. Army Medical Activities, Fort Knox, KY 40121. Fort Knox is the sixth largest urban community in the Commonwealth of Kentucky with a long and rich history. It is located adjacent to the city of Radcliff, 15 miles north of Elizabethtown, and approximately 35 miles south of Louisville. Abundant housing in a variety of settings is available in both rural and metropolitan areas. Many amenities like world-class performing arts, great sports and a nationally-acclaimed parks system are available. Fort Knox is situated within close proximity to Churchill Downs, home of the legendary Kentucky Derby, the new Muhammad Ali Center, 4th Street Live Entertainment complex, Waterfront Park, and beautiful and historic neighborhoods. ### Responsibilities
* Directs the work of civilian Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) (GS-06) and Paramedics (GS-07) and provide a wide range of emergency medical services and procedures.
* Responds on-site to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses, and sometimes encounters situations which may be life threatening.
* Conducts a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of his condition and searches for medical alert symbols.
* Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation on patients through various techniques such as , intravenous (IV) insertion, intubation and drug administration.
* Operate a patient transport vehicle to safely move the patients to the appropriate facility
* Determine proper method to stabilize patients with physical injuries, such as, fractures, dislocations and sprains.

* Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
* This position requires you obtain and maintain valid statesides Driver's License.

* The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
* Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
* This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
* This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
* Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
* This position requires the employee to wear a uniform, scrubs, or other appropriate medical professional attire while on duty.
* This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
* This position is an Inclement Weather Essential position.
* This position requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
### Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least on year of experience which prepares you to do the work in this job.
Specialized experience is defined as: leading and/or direction the work of others; responding to accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses; conducting examination to obtain patients vital signs; initiating intravenous (IV) therapy; and operating and maintaining emergency vehicles.
Licensure/Certification: This position requires a Kentucky State issued Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic certification or certifications through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Paramedic (NREMT-P) prior to your entrance on duty date. (You must attach a copy of your certification)
### Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
### Additional information

* This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
* This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing. A job offer to an applicant who is a not a current employee will be withdrawn if the applicant refuses to be tested. Applicants with verified positive test results shall be refused employment. Applications from such individuals shall not be considered for employment for a period of 6 months from the date of the test results.
* A pre-placement medical examination is required.
* Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
* All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
* Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
* This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
* Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
